Carrie Drake is a painter, fiber artist and outdoor educator. Carrie earned a B.A in Studio Art and Chemistry from Knox College and a M.F.A from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has taught workshops in the US and Australia in dyeing, fiber education, knitting, spinning, color theory, painting, and pigment making. She especially enjoys teaching youth art and science classes. Her work has been exhibited across the US, in Australia and Singapore.
Originally from Illinois, Carrie recently moved to Syracuse from Australia where she spent the last five years. Spending time in different natural environments is integral part of Carrie’s work. Using observations of color changes, weather patterns, environmental shifts, Carrie makes two-dimensional work and site-specific installations. Carrie encourages material exploration and imaginative play in her classes.
